caption: POPULAR TRADITIONS: The Game of the Bridge in Pisa. A centuries-old tradition inspired by one of the city's structural characteristics: being divided in two by the Arno River. Teams from the northern part, known as the "Tramontana," fight against teams from the southern part. The teams' task is to push a cart, placed on two tracks, halfway across the Ponte di Mezzo. The men from each side compete in various challenges, trying to push it as far as possible toward the opposing side. Popular print, 19th century Italy.
