title: PORTRAIT OF BRIGAND PERRELLI

subject date: 1997-11-19

caption: BRIGANDAGE Portrait of the famous bandit Pasquale Perrelli, gang leader. It is one of the first mug shots in history. On the back of the card, in addition to the photographer's mark, the bandit's name is noted, probably with a transcription error of "Perelli Capo Banda" instead of Perrelli. (See back, code 26056). Italy, 1861.
