Built on the highest point in Rome as an expansion of Cardinal Marcello Crescenzi's existing "Casina della Vigna." Beginning in 1544, various owners commissioned its construction to various architects, until 1576, when Cardinal Ferdinando de' Medici commissioned Bartolomeo Ammannati (June 15, 1511 – April 13, 1592) to complete the work. Ammannati enhanced the archaeological finds discovered in the Villa and gardens. Since 1803, it has been the seat of the French Academy in Rome. Photograph, Italy, 20th century.
