caption: SACRED AND PROFANE The old man comically examines the old/oak tree right under his dress; it is a moment of the ''Saw the Old Woman'', a mid-Lent rite of the peasant world: in the pantomime carried from house to house, the old/oak tree is identified and ''cut down'' by two ''sawmen''; at this point her old husband arrives looking for her, and everyone works hard to bring her back to life, an operation that will succeed perfectly: alive and fruitful she will symbolize the eternal spring rebirth.
