title: MASTIFF II OF LA SCALA OF VERONA

caption: MASTIFF II of the Scale (1308 - 1351) gentleman of Verona from 1329 until death, succedette to the uncle Cangrande of the Scale and of it continued expansionistic politics, forming an alliance with the Viscounts, the Gonzaga and the Este against Giovanni of Luxemburg. Extended its lordship to Vicenza, Padova, Brescia, Parma and Lucca, in the 1337 one gained l’ same hostilities of an alloy formed from the former ones allied to which Venice, Florence and the Luxemburg joined. Therefore it was forced to yield Padova, Brescia, Feltre and Belluno and, with the peace of Venice of 1339, also Treviso and Bassano. The loss, little posterior of Lucca and Parma, marked the decline of the lineage.
