caption: MONASTICISM View of the Hermitage of San Romedio, built on a seventy-meter-high rock, in the middle of a narrow gorge, at the confluence of the Rio Verdes and Rio San Romedio in Val di Non. It is a highly evocative architectural complex, divided into five small churches and seven chapels, built between the 11th and 12th centuries. The nobleman Romedio retired there as a hermit around the year 1000, and from that time onwards the sanctuary took his name. Print by E. Bertagnolli, Italy, circa 1940.
