caption: CHILDREN of different ages, gathered in a shack to play and study, view of the interior taken from the entrance door: some older girls looked after the little ones while the adults worked at home or in the factory. The Montecatini Village was nicknamed the ''Shanghai District'', one of the workers' villages that arose near the factories; the shack-houses, which the company had allowed its workers to build, considered temporary with a view to replacing them with masonry buildings, had no running water or sewage connection, however they were reached by the electricity line.
