The new values of the French Revolution and the desire to oust even the mere concept of aristocracy from daily life lead to the ''revolution'' of the appearance of playing cards as well, which become a vehicle for dissemination: in this deck of cards published at Egalité- sur-Marne (Château-Thierry) by Bezu, the ''numbers'' are replaced by the new names of the days of the decades and the figures called ''First'', ''Second'' and ''Third'' represent the Elements , the Seasons and the Virtues. The Third of Diamonds depicts Liberty with the Phrygian hat, the indivisibility of the fasces and the warning ''You have freedom, be worthy of preserving it''.
