Philippe PETAIN (24 April 1856 – 23 July 1951) French marshal and politician, hero in World War I; in World War II, after the defeat of 1940, he assumed the presidency of the council, concluding the armistice with Nazi Germany and accepting the occupation, giving rise to the Vichy regime.
