caption: Ferdinando Bocconi (1836-1908) textile entrepreneur Milan and Italian senator. In 1865, along with his brother Louis for first in Italy, he had the idea to open a shop to sell ready-made clothes. His department stores opened in the center of Milan were called 'At City of Italy'; destroyed by fire and rebuilt in 1917, the writer Gabriele D'Annunzio dubbed them 'La Rinascente'. In memory of his son, lost in the Battle of Adwa, the entrepreneur founded the Bocconi University, which opened in Milan on November 10, 1902. Portrait photo from the waist up. Milan, 1906
