caption: USA AMERICAN REVOLUTION The bloody Boston Massacre, March 5, 1770. A small spontaneous mob of colonists gathered in front of the British Custom House (sarcastically nicknamed "Butcher's Hall" by the engraver) on King Street insults the soldiers on guard, throwing snowballs at them; the armed response leaves three civilian victims and eight wounded, two of whom will not survive. In the illustration they are massacred by a force of the 29th Regiment of British troops. Engraving by Paul Revere (January 1, 1735 – May 10, 1818), American engraver, patriot and silversmith.
