caption: Leopold Joseph Maria von DAUN (24 September 1705 - 5 February 1766) Austrian leader, count of the Holy Roman Empire and Prince of Teano. Still thirteen years old he took part in the War of the Quadruple Alliance in his father's regiment, in the War of the Polish succession he gained the rank of colonel, and in the clashes with the Ottoman Empire he obtained the position of Field Marshal-Lieutenant, who honored during the War of Austrian Succession deserving from the Empress Maria Theresa the role of Governor of Vienna and the decoration of Cavaliere del Toson d'Oro. In 1757 he defeated Frederick II of Prussia in the Battle of Kolin, and for the occasion the empress instituted a new knightly order, decorating it Knight of the Grand Cross of the Military Order of Maria Theresa.
