HISTORY OF THE PRESS Alfredo of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha (6 August 1844 - 30 July 1900), Duke of Edinburgh, and the new bride Marija Aleksandrovna Romanova (17 October 1853 - 20 October 1920) arrive at Windsor for the first meeting of the Duchess with Queen Victoria and the royal family. The news of the historic meeting between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, linked by an unusual and stubborn marriage of love that had engaged the royalties of United Kingdom and Russia in long and complex negotiations, was widely reported in the press and illustrated (as usual era) from reporters draftsmen. The sketches of the events were taken "live" and then elaborated with more calm delineating the features and details; given the speed with which the events take place, the images could be different on the various titles (see # 42051). The advent of photographic news has then put an end to the differences in interpretation, offering rather different angles of recovery. Engraving with photorechanical screen by GG Kilburne for "The Graphic", United Kingdom, March 1874
