caption: MILAN monument dedicated to the Roman emperor Constantine I (274-337), who in 313 with the Edict of Milan (city at the time capital of the Western Roman Empire), granted freedom of worship to Christians. The statue, placed in 1935 in the churchyard of the basilica of San Lorenzo in Milan, is a modern bronze copy of an ancient original of the fourth century, which is located in San Giovanni in Laterano in Rome. The emperor is immortalized as he rests his left hand on his sword, with his right arm raised to show the scroll of the Edict of Tolerance, which has now disappeared. Photography, Milan, 2013
